Welcome to the PGA Tour, Lucas Herbert. He punched his ticket for 2021-22 via the Korn Ferry Tour Finals. A T-4th in the first of three KFT Finals events, the Albertson’s Boise Open, did much of the work, though he did make the cut the next two weeks.

It was vindication for the 25-year-old Aussie who is well established on the European Tour. He won his first Euro Tour event in 2020, beating the likes of Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and others at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Herbert tacked on a couple more top-10s in Rolex Series events in 2020 and kept the momentum rolling in 2021. He won the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open by three shots and by four over third place.

Herbert was just one shot out of a playoff the following week at the abrdn Scottish Open where he settled for T-4th competing against a tough field that was preparing for The Open a week later.

He ranks first on the European Tour in putts per green in regulation (1.7) and second in putts per round (27.45). Herbert’s another young gun who can hit the ball a mile. He’s 14th on the tour in driving distance (311.73). Fitting for someone from the Sand Belt to be good out of the bunker. He’s 26th in sand saves (66.67%).

Herbert is 19th in the Race to Dubai standings and could be a big factor at the European Tour’s closing events coming up. For now, I see him quickly earning some FedEx Cup points in his Fortinet Championship debut and getting on track to soon win on the PGA Tour.
