Stewart Cink is technically the tournament defending champion, but it may feel that way for Cameron Champ, too. He hoisted the trophy wine barrel at Silverado in 2019. After making a deep FedEx Cup Playoffs run leading in, Champ opted out of the 2020 event. Fittingly, Cink is not in the 2021 field.

Champ is back, though, and with good memories in tow. Champ fired 67-68-67-69 in an emotional one-shot victory. Champ fought back tears on the 18th green in winning for his grandfather, who was in hospice care at the time and passed away soon after.

Champ is now a three-time PGA Tour winner with a victory at the 2018 Sanderson Farms Championship and 2021 3M Open.

Champ’s played just three times since Minnesota, so he should be fresh this week.

He posted decent form in that stretch, finishing T-31st at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational and making the cut at the first playoff event, The Northern Trust.

Champ reached the BMW Championship after making it all the way to East Lake in 2020.

The former Texas A&M Aggie is making his fourth Fortinet Championship finish. Champ took T-25th (70-71-72-68) in 2018.

The 26-year-old ranked 10th on the PGA Tour last season in strokes gained off the tee (.593). Champ is as long as anyone at third in driving distance (317.1).

While not known for his wedge game, he did end up first in approaches from 50-75 yards (8’1”).
