No one is talking about Harris English and how he could be a dominant force in the 2021 Ryder Cup for the Americans.

He has been overlooked by most experts this week, and even though English isn’t the longest off the tee or the best on the American squad, this man has what it takes to be the points leader.

In his first Ryder Cup, English has to play confidently and to his strengths. If the American’s captain, Steve Stricker, gives him a chance, English can be someone who scores points when it matters.

Assistant captains Davis Love III and Zach Johnson know English all too well — heck, they live on the same island and play at the same golf club. They know he has what it takes to shine in the Ryder Cup. They just must convince Stricker to put him out there as much as possible.

English has also found success in match-play events. He has won over Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy in the 2014 and 2015 WGC-Match Play events. He fell to Jim Furyk and Rickie Fowler to round out his 4-2 record.

He finished 1-2 in the 2021 WGC-Match Play, as he got eliminated in group play. English beat Brendon Todd, but then he lost to Erik van Rooyen and then Daniel Berger.

Even though he didn’t play his best, English’s history with match play features far more triumphs than defeats. If I  were Stricker, I’d put him out there and see what he can do. Pairing him with someone like Tony Finau would be good, but in all honesty, English can play with anyone and should find success.

His laid-back personality may not be to everyone’s liking, especially for an event like the Ryder Cup, but I  like to think of English as a silent killer. He can be someone who will sneak up on you and beat you before they realize it.

English is playing some of the best golf in his career, and he deserves to get some credit. He could be the high-point scorer for the Americans and possibly be one of the big reasons Team USA wins on home soil.
