Welcome to the PGA Tour, Lucas Herbert. The Aussie carved up the European Tour, peaking with a win in a Rolex Series event, the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, an event he won by three shots. He followed it up with T-4th the next week at another Rolex Series event, the abrdn Scottish Open.

With his Euro Tour card locked up for a while, the 25-year-old decided to give it a go at Korn Ferry Tour Finals to try to jump up to the PGA Tour.

Herbert had his card all but locked up after the first of three events by finishing T-4th at the Albertsons Boise Open. He made the cut at the next two events to seal the deal.

Herbert missed the cut in his debut at the Fortinet Championship, but I like him to bounce back. There will be some growing pains adjusting to new courses week in and week out, but he has the talent to do it.

Herbert ranks first on the Euro Tour in putts per green in regulation (1.7) and third in average putts per round (27.45). He was 15th in driving distance (311.7) and is deadly when hitting just a field-average number of fairways.

With the Ryder Cup in the books, you know there will be some Way-Too-Early articles predicting the 2022 Presidents Cup rosters. Herbert is a trendy pick to be a part of the International squad.

Herbert’s coach, Dominic Azzopardi, spoke to Herbert’s potential on Golf Australia’s Inside The Ropes podcast.

“I spent a fair bit of time with Sean Foley, Tiger’s old coach, when I was over there in the US in February/March,” Azzopardi said. “‘Foles’ said it himself. He said, ‘This kid can be as good as he wants to be.”
