Mackenzie Hughes comes to the Sanderson Farms Championship seeking his seventh straight made cut. Ironically, this comes on the heels of five missed cuts.

The Canadian seems to have it figured out now. Hughes advanced to the BMW Championship in the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He also carded four rounds in the 60s to post his highest finish in a major, T-6th.

Hughes hasn’t teed it up at Country Club of Jackson since 2016. He made a solid debut that year, carding 68-74-70-68 as a fresh-faced PGA Tour rookie.

Just a few weeks later, Hughes prevailed for a win at the RSM Classic.

Hughes ranked 15th on the PGA Tour last season in strokes gained off the tee (.483) and is sixth inside 10 feet (89.93%).

He was sixth in 2019-20 in SG around the green (,454). While he dipped to 74th (.108) last season, Hughes is still improving in that category from earlier years.

Hughes should be hungry for his second career win. He owns 13 top-10s since his RSM Classic victory.

He almost made it 14, but a ball stuck in a tree at the U.S. Open contributed him slipping down to T-15th at Torrey Pines.

He’s hovering just a shade outside the coveted top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings. His performance at Royal St. George’s earned his way back to the 2022 Open, but getting inside the top 50 will do wonders for his efforts to qualify for the other three majors and other big-time events.

A top-10 here in Mississippi will inch Hughes closer to that goal.
