Louis Oosthuizen got his first taste of the Shriners Children’s Open in 2020 and is back for more this year.

The South African debuted nicely with rounds of 65-68-71-64 to grab T-19th. Oosthuizen made just five bogeys and none worse on the week. He did not stand out in any one category statistically, but was solid throughout the bag and would have been in contention if not for a poor score Saturday.

Oosthuizen comes into the week well-rested off of three weeks away following the Tour Championship where he finished 14th.

While Oosty is still seeking his first win on the PGA Tour/American soil, it was still a tremendous 2021. Most notable was his performance at the majors: T-26th, T-2nd, 2nd and T-3rd.

Oosthuizen was also 12-for-12 making cuts worldwide in 2021 and had another close chance at a win at the 3M Open where he finished T-2nd.

The 38-year-old ranked first on the PGA Tour last season in strokes gained putting (.764). He was money from inside 10 feet, draining 90.29% of attempts to rank fourth.

Oosthuizen was top-30 in the other SG categories except for off the tee. His consistency displayed all year was exemplified in his scoring average where he was third at 69.714.

Oosthuizen isn’t the longest hitter out there, but he has just enough power (297.8 driving average, 87th) to contend on most courses. He should have plenty at TPC Summerlin where guys of various playing styles have found success.

I don’t quite envision Oosthuizen ending his win drought yet, but he’ll improve on his first visit to TPC Summerlin and land inside the top 10.
