Webb Simpson is a past Shriners Children’s Open champion and has tons of high finishes at this event.

His impressive resume at TPC Summerlin is highlighted by a 2013 victory. It also includes nine straight made cuts after missing out in his tournament debut in 2009. Eight times he finished T-31st or higher.

He posted 64-63-67-66 to win by six shots. His 260 aggregate score tied Ryan Moore (2012) for the tournament’s low aggregate score. The margin of victory was the Shriners’ biggest since Davis Love III won by eight in 1993.

Simpson spoke in 2019 why he loves playing here.

“I like it because you have to think your way around this golf course,” Simpson was quoted by ASAP Sports. Other courses that we play, you don’t think. You hit driver and you hit it as far as you can. This golf course has doglegs, run-outs, bunkers. You really do have to think. I typically enjoy playing courses where you can hit driver, 3-wood, 5-wood on a lot of these holes.”

Simpson has three more top-10s at the Shriners, including most recently in 2019 with a T-7th (67-66-64-68) finish. The Wake Forest alum earned T-13th (68-67-65-67) last year and was only six shots off the winning pace on a crowded leaderboard.

Simpson’s fired 14 straight rounds in the 60s at TPC Summerlin since 2017.

The 36-year-old is teeing it up for the second time on the young 2021-22 PGA Tour season. Simpson finished T-30th at the Fortinet Championship for his fourth straight made cut.

Counting no-cut, limited field events he’s got six top-50s in a row.

Simpson gained strokes in every main category last season, highlighted by ranking 10th in SG around the green (.353).

Low scores are a requisite to win the Shriners. Simpson was eighth in birdie average (4.34).
