I admittedly had a tough time filling this 10th spot. Brooks Koepka was certainly worthy. Same with Viktor Hovland, Harris English, et. al. Even with a missed last cut last week in Las Vegas at the Shriners Children’s Open, I’m still backing Abraham Ancer.

The MC is a blip on the radar for what’s otherwise been a scorching stretch of golf. Ancer won his long-awaited first PGA Tour event late this summer at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.

It was the highlight of 10 top-10s in the 2020-21 PGA Tour season. After prevailing in Memphis, Ancer made the cut at the FedEx Cup Playoffs’ opening event, The Northern Trust, and finished T-9th at the BMW Championship to advance to East Lake.

Last week at TPC Summerlin, Ancer hit 24 of 28 fairways (85.7%) but was just a little off elsewhere. He was fifth in driving accuracy last season (71.05%).

The former Oklahoma Sooner was 15th last season in total strokes gained and was top-30 in each category except for around the green. Fun fact: He was a perfect 865-for-865 putting inside three feet.

While I can’t find any connection to Ancer and The Summit Club, I do think he may have an advantage of already teeing it up competitively last week in Las Vegas. He’ll be adjusted to the elevation and playing desert golf.

Ancer has high finishes at sandy layouts, winning the 2018 Australian Open, finishing solo fourth at the 2020 Shriners and T-6th at the 2020 Saudi International.
