Jordan Spieth joins the litany of players making their 2021-22 PGA Tour season debut at the CJ Cup.

His last appearance was at the Ryder Cup where he and every American player on the roster earned at least one point in a 19-9 blowout win.

Spieth posted a 1-2-1 record, going 1-2-0 with familiar teammate Justin Thomas and halving his singles match against traditional Ryder Cup stalwart, Tommy Fleetwood.

Plus, who could forget Spieth’s phenomenal greenside recovery shot that almost sent him tumbling into Lake Michigan?

Spieth was brilliant throughout 2021 to earn a captain’s pick onto the team. It’s hard to believe he only won once at the Texas Open, but it was a big one to snap a four-year drought.

In the 2020-21 season, the former Texas Longhorn compiled nine top-10s, including two runner-ups and two third-places. He had three top-20s at the majors in 2021, including second at The Open and T-3rd at the Masters.

Spieth’s craftiness was a big part in his resurgence. He ranked sixth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained around the green (.407) and 33rd in SG putting (.389). His iron play was great and when he was keeping it in play off the tee, there were few better.

He ended 10th in birdie average (4.3) and was sixth from his money range in proximity from 150-175 yards (24’5”).

Whether or not Spieth is very familiar with The Summit Club, he’s one of the more studious guys out there. With a few much-deserved weeks off since Whistling Straits, I expect him to be ready to go in Las Vegas.
