Louis Oosthuizen continues to churn out good results. Unlike a lot of the big names in the field at the CJ Cup, he was also in last week’s field across town in Las Vegas at the Shriners Children’s Open.

Oosthuizen tallied 65-67-69-68 for T-14th where he was just five back of second place. The South African ranked third in the field in strokes gained tee to green (8.886 total). He was first on the PGA Tour last season in SG (.764) but was ice cold last week.

I like the flat stick to come around this week and be a help not a hindrance toward his effort to win for the first time on American soil. This was his second straight top-20 at the Shriners, so maybe it portends to good desert golf from him on the whole.

Oosthuizen comes to The Summit Club on a streak of six straight top-40s. That includes T-3rd at The Open and T-2nd at the 3M Open. The 38-year-old also famously came oh-so-close at the PGA Championship (T-2nd) and U.S. Open (2nd).

Oosthuizen ranked 15th on the PGA Tour in proximity from the fairway (29’). The rest of his iron play stats were down, though, in 2020-21. He knows it, and is working on it.

“I don’t think my iron play was very good last season,” Oosthuizen was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “I think it’s definitely improved, especially on my wedges. Obviously my putting has improved quite a bit and I feel really comfortable on the greens and felt I’ve always been a decent driver of the golf ball, so I think I can definitely improve with that iron game and get those kinks out of the game and keep it really sharp.”
