2021 CJ Cup: Top 10 power rankings at The Summit Club
Some wondered if Dustin Johnson was going to be a key contributor on the American Ryder Cup team. He had some nice top-10 finishes entering the event, but was far from the elite player that helped him previously get to number one in the world.
At 37, he was also one of the team’s older statesmen.
DJ answered the bell, going a rare 5-0-0 and being a Ryder Cup leader when many expected him to stand back and let others do the talking.
“I felt like the game was coming together. Ryder Cup is always a fun week. It’s so much fun for us to come out and play golf like this just because we don’t usually do it,“ Johnson was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “I did not expect 5-0-0, that’s for sure, but I didn’t really expect to play five matches but obviously got off to a good start and had some good partnerships there with Collin and Xander, so Captain just kept us rolling.”
It was wonderful to see Dustin so carefree after the U.S. won the cup. Assuming the champagne’s wore off by now, it’s time for him to get back to business.
His last individual start was at the Tour Championship where he finished eighth in the tournament/in the final FedEx Cup standings. That was the last of nine top-10s in the 2020-21 season that was highlighted by his 2020 Masters triumph.
The Coastal Carolina alum ranked 12th on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.253). His ball striking numbers dipped slightly from the season prior, but he did jump 32 spots up to 63rd in SG around the green (.147).
As far as I can tell, Johnson doesn’t have much experience checking out The Summit Club. With that said, when has a lack of information ever really got in his way?
