2021 Bermuda Championship: Top 10 power rankings at Port Royal GC
There’s a lot of international flavor in this week’s field. That includes Belgian Thomas Detry.
He’s looking to make a splash in his Butterfield Bermuda Championship debut. Detry briefly popped outside the top 100 in the world rankings in 2021, but he’s safely back in the threshold after some high-quality finishes on the European Tour.
The former University of Illinois standout finished T-2nd at the Porsche European Open and abrdn Scottish Open, the latter of which was a Rolex Series event.
Detry is still seeking his maiden Euro Tour win. He came close yet again a few weeks ago when he grabbed T-4th at the Dutch Open.
Detry played a handful of times on the PGA Tour in 2021 and showed some modest success. He grabbed T-13th at the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship and T-28th at the WGC-Workday Championship.
He’s been in or near the top 50 on the European Tour every year as a pro in driving distance. Detry is 53rd this season at 304.65 yards. This week’s layout doesn’t necessarily reward bombers, though his length will come in handy on upwing holes.
He was 19th on the Euro Tour in 2020 in greens in regulation (70.71%).
The PGA Tour held limited field events the last two weeks, which held out most of this week’s field in Bermuda. While Detry’s last start in Spain a couple weeks ago resulted in a missed cut, he still may be a bit sharper than most at Port Royal who have been off longer.
