After winning two European Tour events in a breakout 2020, Christiaan Bezuidenhout has gone winless in 2021.

Nonetheless, the South African has maintained his top-50 caliber play and is more consistent than ever. In fact, Bezuidenhout made all 17 stroke play cuts this year among all tours. That included all four majors, the Players Championship and an elevated status event, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he earned seventh place for his career best on the PGA Tour.

Bezuidenhout was a non-member on the PGA Tour in 2020-21 and would have had to win an event to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Instead, he balled out at Korn Ferry Tour Finals and posted a couple top-10s to breeze his way to a PGA Tour card.

He has a great chance at representing the International team for the first time at the President’s Cup in 2022. Finishing solo fifth at the BMW Championship, the European Tour’s flagship event, like Bez did in his last start, can only help.

He’s making his Butterfield Bermuda Championship debut this week. Bez is coming off a five-week break from competition. I think the time away after a busy 2021 will do him well and allow him to take plenty of time to study up on a new test like Port Royal.

Bezuidenhout didn’t log enough Shotlink rounds last season to qualify for PGA Tour statistical ranks. That’s too bad, because in 32 rounds his .499 shots per round gained around the green would have ranked third in 2020-21.

A good short game is useful when the wind is blowing like it can on the Bermuda coast.
