Tony Finau has bookended his five trips to El Camaleon with a pair of top-10 finishes. The big hitter debuted in 2014 with a personal best T-7th finish (65-72-60-65) and in 2020 posted T-8th (67-66-69-67).

The meat of this sandwich also includes a solid T-16th (69-65-67-69) in 2018.

“I’m still able to use my length by hitting 3‑woods and 2‑irons and moving it up the fairway still where most guys would have to hit driver and things,” Finau was transcribed in 2014 by ASAP Sports. “I hit one driver today, so I definitely wasn’t able to use my driver length, but I still use my length off the tee just in different ways.”

Finau had the putter going last year on the paspalum greens, finishing second in the field in putts per green in regulation (1.56).

He also made no double bogeys or worse, which is an impressive feat for a bomber at a narrow layout like this.

The 32-year-old’s form coming into Mexico shows a T-45th finish at the CJ Cup. It snapped a streak of three straight top-25s highlighted by his win at The Northern Trust. It was a big one for Finau, who put to rest a six-year winless drought.

The Utahan gained strokes in every category last season on the PGA Tour, most notably around the green where he ranked 20th (.298).

He was 31st in driving distance (305.5) while still leaving a lot in the tank on most swings.

Finau is ultra-consistent and ranked 14th in scoring average (69.972) in 2020-21.
