After taking some needed time off this summer, Matthew Wolff has hit the ground running to open the 2021-22 PGA Tour season this fall.

His game has been sharp has his last three results read T-17th at the Sanderson Farms Championship, second at the Shriners Children’s Open and T-5th last week at the World Wide Technology Championship.

Wolff held a two-shot lead after 36 holes last week. He’s won before on the PGA Tour, but it was back in his rookie year at the 3M Open. The 22-year-old is relearning how to close out a tournament and took a step back with a Saturday 74 at El Camaleon.

Credit to Wolff for fighting back to close in 65, though he was still miles behind winner and former Oklahoma State teammate, Viktor Hovland.

Wolff was T-2nd in the field in greens in regulation (77.78%) and T-4th in birdies (23).

Memorial Park should be a better course fit for Wolff, who had driver taken out of his hands often last week.

It’ll be his debut at this venue, but I don’t care. Wolff has shown flashes of his top potential in 2021. This is where he puts it all together and creeps back closer to the top 20 in the world.

Wolff felt bullish on his game leaving Mexico for Texas.

“I felt like even (Saturday) my game really felt good, just stuff wasn’t really going my way,” Wolff was transcribed by Tee Scripts. “I had a lot of bad breaks and the putts weren’t dropping. I easily could have shot maybe a couple under if I made a couple of the short ones coming in, but just didn’t turn out that way.

“I knew that I felt really good with every part of my game and I knew that if I came out today, especially with it being a little windy, and put a really solid round together, then I could shoot up the leaderboard and that’s what I did.”
