Tyrrell Hatton was not his best self in the FedEx Cup Playoffs nor the Ryder Cup. Fortunately for the Englishman, his game appears to be turning the corner.

It’s a small sample size, but three straight made cuts leading into the Houston Open are encouraging. Hatton was just two off the winning pace en route to T-2nd at the European Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He followed with T-18th at the CJ Cup and a top-40 last week at Mayakoba.

He had a good showing at Memorial Park in 2020. Hatton posted 71-70-67-65 for T-7th.

He rolled his rock well on the undulating Bermuda greens, finishing seventh in strokes gained putting (5.77). Hatton made no double bogeys or worse and was T-9th in both scrambling (71.43%) and greens in regulation (70.83%).

Hatton is an eight-time winner on the European Tour, including in 2021 at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Based on earning 48 Official World Golf Rankings points, that was his third best win behind the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational (66) and the BMW PGA Championship (64).

The 30-year-old was a net-positive in all strokes gained categories last season on the PGA Tour. It was an extraordinary ball striking year. Hatton was 29th in SG off the tee (.322) and 13th in SG approach (.651).

Hatton is not a bomber, but he can get it out there long enough to contend if he’s playing well. He was 13th in proximity from the fairway (30’).

I bet you didn’t know Hatton was first in final round scoring average (68.55), did you? Neither did I.
