Scottie Scheffler grew up three hours or so northwest in Dallas. He’s far from a local this week, but he should still get a boost playing in his home state.

Scheffler also has experience at Memorial Park from the course’s inaugural PGA Tour event hosted in 2020. The former Texas Longhorn carded bookending rounds in the 60s en route to T-32nd.

This is what he had to say about the course after Thursday last year:

“I think the golf course kind of forces you into being patient just because you can’t really miss too many greens,” Scheffler was transcribed by Tee Scripts. “Around the greens out here is very, very difficult to get up and down and you can get into some spots where you start playing ping pong across these greens, it’s brutal. Fairways and greens is definitely at a premium this week.”

The 2021 Ryder Cup member continues to knock on the door of his first PGA Tour win.

Scheffler was in the mix again last week, finishing solo fourth last week at the Worldwide Technology Championship.

He fired 17-under at El Camaleon and led the field in greens in regulation (81.94%).

The 25-year-old had a very consistent 2020-21 season. He ranked 33rd in total strokes gained (.932) and 17th in SG off the tee (.515).

Scheffler has missed just one cut since May. His closest call at a win came in Texas at the 2021 WGC-Match Play where he advanced to the championship.
