Each week on the PGA Tour, there are players who exceed expectations and others who fall short of what was expected of them. Here at Pro Golf Now, we call them winners and losers. Here are the winners and losers from the 2021 World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba.

Winners

Viktor Hovland – He earned his third PGA Tour title with an outstanding weekend in Mexico. Hovland shot 62-67 to win by four against a pretty good field this week. It won’t be the last victory for the talented young Norwegian.

Carlos Ortiz – Playing in his native Mexico, Ortiz made his homeland proud with an outstanding effort this week. He shot 5-under par on Sunday to climb from fourth to second.

Justin Thomas – He entered the week not seeming to be at the top of his game. But Thomas was solid all week, especially with his 65 on Friday and his 64 on Saturday, finishing third. Look out, Thomas is getting close to breaking out.

Scottie Scheffler – If not for a 70 on Saturday, Scheffler might have caught Hovland. Still, a solo fourth-place finish shows that Scheffler is carrying the Ryder Cup momentum forward.

Matthew Wolff – He started out with an amazing 61 on Thursday, but slipped to 68 on Friday and 74 on Saturday. He bounced back with a 65 on Sunday to jump from 17th into a tie for fifth. All-in-all, a good week for Wolff.

Losers

Talor Gooch – He was in the mix with one round to play. But his 74 on Sunday dropped him from second into a tie for 11th. It was tough for Gooch, especially after his 63 on Saturday.

Brooks Koepka – He continues to be hard to figure out. Sometimes, he’s as good as any player in the world. But other times, like this week, Koepka inexplicably struggles. Two rounds of 71 left him outside the cut line this week.

Will Zalatoris – After starting the season hot, Zalatoris has struggled in his last three events. He missed the cut this week, making it two missed cuts in his last three events.

Ian Poulter – He shot a nice 66 on Thursday but followed that with a 73 on Friday to miss the cut. This could have been a bigger week for Poulter.

Mito Pereira – This was not Pereira’s week, apparently. He shot 70 on Thursday but ballooned to a 78 on Friday. He finished near the bottom of the field.
