Harris English has an up-and-down resume at the RSM Classic. That seems to be more of a reflection of the peaks and valleys of his career more than anything.

When it boils down to it, this has the makings of an event that plays to his strengths when he’s on form.

That includes 2020, when the Sea Island member fired 66-66-72-62 to finish T-6th and just three off the pace. He hit 80.56% greens (T-11th) and gained strokes in every category in his three rounds on the Seaside course.

“Yeah, this place is awesome,” English was transcribed by Tee Scripts in 2020. “Moved down here right when I graduated from Georgia and it’s been a place I’ve called home for the last 10 years, and it’s nice to have an event here and kind of get to show off on how special this place is, St. Simons, Sea Island.”

English also finished T-15th in 2012 at Sea Island as well as T-27th in 2013 and T-25th in 2015.

This is the former Georgia Bulldog’s first event back since withdrawing after round three of the CJ Cup in mid-October with a back injury.

It’s hard to say what kind of health he’s in. I have to assume he’s at least fairly close to back to 100%. There’s no reason to push it for an event like this, even if it is on home turf.

English ranked 31st last season in SG around the green (.24) and 12th in SG putting (.544) and, as a southern boy, should be comfortable on Bermuda greens. He was also 14th in birdie average (4.26).
