Justin Thomas only played twice in the fall, but he posted pretty solid results. He captured T-18th at the CJ Cup and solo third at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba.

“Yeah, I’m very pleased. Showed a lot of great things, a lot of positives. Really putted the ball well this week,” Thomas was transcribed by Tee Scripts after Mayakoba. “I felt like I had a lot to gain on that. Just got to tighten up my swing and some things here and there, but all in all, yeah, it was nice to get in contention.”

There were no strokes gained statistics to analyze at Mayakoba, though we can see that JT got up and down all four times from bunkers. That’s a good sign for a sandy layout like Albany.

The 28-year-old has since had a few weeks to recharge before the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship (Father/Son Challenge) in a couple weeks.

Thomas is at Albany for the fourth time. He didn’t have his best stuff in 2017 (11th) or 2018 (T-12th) but improved in 2019 (T-5th). The Kentuckian posted 69-69-67-70 a couple years ago.

A double bogey on the 72nd hole cost him solo fourth and allowed buddy and tournament host, Tiger Woods, to pip him by a shot.

Thomas ranked third (.887) on the PGA Tour last season in SG approach and has the type of iron play to hold up well in the Bahmas wind.

JT also ranked ninth in birdie average (4.31) and first in fairway proximity (28’10”).
