Patrick Cantlay has finished on the top half of the leaderboard in each of his three Sentry Tournament of Champions appearances.

The highlight was in 2020 when he fired 69-71-73-68 to finish solo fourth and post the best score outside of three players in a playoff.

“I’ve learned to enjoy this place,” Cantlay was transcribed by ASAP Sports last year. “The first year I played it I didn’t like it and I just, once you kind of adapt to not hitting any normal shots, it’s just not a normal golf course, so once you realize that you’re going to hit some goofy shots out there, but that’s how you play well, I started to like this place more. I think some of that is just experience, realizing what shot is the right shot out here. Because there’s a bunch of elevation change and a bunch of tricky shots out here.”

The reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year had a great 2021. He triumphed at the Memorial Tournament, the BMW Championship and Tour Championship en route to winning the season-long FedEx Cup title.

The 29-year-old ranked third on the PGA Tour last season in total strokes gained (1.82) and was no worse than 30th in any SG category. Talk about well-roundedness. One of Cantlay’s few weaknesses was driving accuracy, which ranked just outside the top 100. Fortunately, wide fairways and the ability to take less off the tee at the Plantation course could aid him.

The former UCLA Bruin was also first in par-4 scoring average (3.95) and seventh in par-5 scoring (4.52).
