Corey Conners had a nice little three-year run from 2018 to 2020 at the Sony Open.

In his tournament debut, the Canadian carded 70-66-67-69 to finish a respectable T-39th.

Conners’ career really took off in 2019 when he won his first PGA Tour event at the Valero Texas Open. That maiden win nearly came at the Sony Open earlier in the year where he finished T-3rd (68-67-64-64). Conners was just one shot back of second place.

The former Kent State Golden Flash carded 68-71-69-66 to take T-12th in 2020. Conners was T-11th in greens in regulation (73.61%) and 11th in SG putting (5.087 total).

He opted to skip the event in 2021, but he’s back in 2022.

Conners comes to Waialae on a streak of five straight made cuts. His last individual outing was T-22nd last fall at the RSM Classic.

Conners teamed with Graeme McDowell to tie for fifth place at the exhibition team event, the QBE Shootout.

Last season, the 30-year-old ranked eighth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.625) and ninth in SG approach (.698). His short game is in need of repair. That’s usually a need at the Sony Open, but a fairly benign forecast could allow him to hit so many greens that it won’t matter.

Conners was also seventh in driving accuracy (70.15%).

He posted five top-10s in 2021 against only three missed cuts. Some of the highlights were solo third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, solo seventh at the Players Championship and three top-20s at the majors. Conners also made his way to the Tour Championship.
