Top 10 power rankings in 2022 The American Express
Sungjae Im is known for his consistency. He earned PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors in 2018-19 by becoming a top-25 machine who rarely took a week off. Im has slowed his tournament pace slightly, and it appears to be paying off with two victories after a winless rookie campaign.
The American Express is another place where Im can turn top-10s and top-25s into trophies. The South Korean star debuted in Palm Springs in 2019 with a T-12th-place finish (71-65-64-71). Im improved by one shot and by two spots on the leaderboard in 2020 (67-66-69-68).
Im posted his third straight top-12 finish (68-65-73-69) at this event in 2021.
“I feel comfortable playing at the American Express and visually from the tee box it’s a course that I really like and enjoy to play, so I feel really comfortable throughout the round and the two courses that we’re playing this week, I like those courses and that’s what led me to a good score,” Im was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2021.
Im is coming off a missed cut last week at the Sony Open. The surprise early exit snapped a streak of nine finishes of T-31st or higher, though some were limited field events. It also snapped a streak of nine made cuts.
The 23-year-old finished T-8th at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Im ranks 14th on the PGA Tour this season in SG off the tee (.643) and 11th in SG around the green (.598). He’s vying to follow the lead of Si Woo Kim to make it back-to-back South Korean victories at The American Express.
