Tony Finau has been an absolute machine over the years at the Farmers Insurance Open. He’s known as a consistent player regardless of venue, but Torrey Pines must be one of his favorites.

He’s come to La Jolla every year since 2015. He debuted with the first of seven straight top-25s here.

Finau’s eye-popping results read: T-24th (73-68-70-74), T-18th (71-71-71-77), T-4th (73-68-67-71), T-6th (65-70-73-73), T-13th (69-69-69-70), T-6th (70-70-68-70) and T-2nd (69-67-74-69).

In total, Finau owns 21 under-par rounds out of 28 in recent years at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Finau rose 10 spots up the leaderboard on Sunday of 2021. His stats for the week were fairly solid across the board, including 13th in strokes gained tee to green (5.556 total) and 12th in SG around the green (2.414).

The made-cut streak, unfortunately, came to an end when Finau missed the cut at the 2021 U.S. Open.

“The South sets up nicely for me with my length,” Finau was transcribed by Tee Scripts in 2018. “I think length is a big advantage on the South specifically, so I’ve been able to put some good rounds together there. You know, it looks pretty good to me. A lot of the holes you can hit a fade and I’m a fader of the ball, I like hitting the fade off the tee.”

Finau’s teed it up twice in 2022. He earned T-19th at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and T-40th at last week’s The American Express.

The 32-year-old hits it plenty far to play well at Torrey Pines and was 36th in SG off the tee (.281) last season.
