The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is the next stop on the PGA’s 2022 schedule and after two weeks in a row of multi-course rotation, we will once again see three different courses in use on the California coast.

The bad news is its another week of multiple course rotation and the 156 man field this week isn’t great, to say the least, the good news is this is the last event this season that will use multiple courses, and with the Waste Management Open, Genesis Invitational, and THE PLAYERS all on the horizon there is plenty to look forward to.

It’s nothing personal against Pebble Beach, it is one of the most iconic and beautiful courses on the Tour schedule year after year, but to say that the best players in the world still look forward to this event would not be an honest assessment.

The majority of the top 10 players in the world rankings are either playing overseas this week at the Saudi International or have elected to pass on a pro-am event that uses three different courses and produces some of the longest rounds of golf of the year.

This week the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will re-introduce Monterey Peninsula to the mix after it was removed from the equation in 2021, Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill will also be used. The 156 man field will be cut down to 60 after three rounds with one more round taking place at Pebble Beach on Sunday.

Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, and Jon Rahm may not be here this week, but there are a good amount of famous faces to look forward to seeing this week if you aren’t too concerned with a tournament’s strength of field. Keep an eye out for Josh Allen, Steve Young, Bill Murray, Josh Duhamel, Ray Romano, and Jake Owen, to name a few of the celebrities that are flocking to Pebble Beach for some golf in 2022.

Patrick Cantlay headlines the favorites this week and the world number 4 is one of just three players inside of the top 20 in the official world golf rankings that will be making an appearance at Pebble Beach this week.

Cantlay has a 3rd and 11th place finish here in his last two starts and he has no finishes worse than 10th in any of his last four starts on the PGA Tour.

Matthew NeSmith (+1000)

I’m fully prepared for Patrick Cantlay to go nuclear and win this thing by at least three strokes this week, and to be honest the rest of the board is not that appealing due to the strength of the field this week. As such my focus will be on a couple of players that come in at triple digits, the first of which is Matthew NeSmith.

The South Carolina native has finished 11th and16th at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in both of his last two starts here. Matthew is excellent with his wedges and he excels specifically from the 75 to 150-yard range, the greens across the three courses this week rank as some of the smallest on Tour, so the ability to hit greens in regulation this week will be critical to success.

Taking advantage of scoring opportunities will also be important this week, NeSmith ranks 33rd in total birdies for the season so far, so he has shown an ability to convert his chances when they are presented.

The 28-year-old has played well in two appearances at this event, he has also played well at the RSM Classic on another coastal course in recent years, he has a 29th, 15th, and 14th place finish there on recent visits. Matthew is still looking for that breakthrough PGA win, we just saw someone pick up their first PGA victory when Luke List won last week at the Farmers, so why not make it two weeks in a row?.

Greyson Sigg (+1000)

Sigg has started 2022 in pretty impressive fashion, the recent Korn Ferry Tour graduate has started this year on the PGA Tour with three straight-made cuts. This includes a 34th place finish at the Farmers last week. Greyson shot three under par on the weekend on the challenging South Course at Torrey Pines, and for the week he gained over two and a half strokes with his irons.

Sigg won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2021 and he returns to Pebble Beach after winning here as an amateur. This is a course that should set up well for him, and he comes into this week on the back of four consecutive events that he has gained strokes in the approach department.
