The 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is about to get underway and while the field strength this time around might be lacking, especially after Will Zalatoris had to withdraw earlier in the week, we are still in for a week of stunning views, celebrities galore, and a high probability of another exciting Sunday finish, something that seems to be the norm on the PGA Tour nowadays.

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will now feature just nine players inside of the world’s top 50, and while the 156 man field (and celebrities) will be split across Pebble Beach Golf Links, Monterey Peninsula (Shore), and Spyglass Hill Golf Course throughout this week, there are some big names making their start to the 2022 Pebble Beach Pro-Am at Monterey Peninsula on Thursday.

Patrick Cantlay is the highest-ranked player in this week’s field (4th) and he begins his tournament alongside Kevin Chappell on Monterey Peninsula’s Shore Course on Thursday.

The world number four will be looking to build upon his impressive performance at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am last year when he opened with a 62 before eventually finishing T3. He has made two starts since the Ryder Cup last September and finished top 10 in both of them, including a 9th at the American Express in his last start.

Chappell meanwhile has started 2022 with three straight made cuts, he is on the last legs of a medical extension and will need to produce a high finish in the next couple of starts to maintain his Tour status. He missed the cut in 2021 at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but prior to that had finishes of 25th and 8th here in the two years previous.

Last year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner Daniel Berger begins his quest for back-to-back wins at Monterey Peninsula on Thursday.

Berger has recorded two top 5’s here over the last two years and he will be playing alongside Lanto Griffin over the first three rounds this week. Daniel has begun 2022 with a 20th at last weeks Farmers and a 5th at the Sentry Tournament Of Champions in Hawaii to start the year.

Lanto Griffin finished T3 at the American Express just a couple of weeks ago and you have to go all the way back to early October last year to find his last missed cut, he has made the cut now in six consecutive starts, this includes last week when he posted T30 at the Farmers.

In two previous starts at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, he has one top 10 (2020) and a missed cut back in 2018.

Jordan Spieth will begin his 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Thursday alongside Ryan Palmer at Monterey Peninsula. His group will be one of the ‘featured groups’ this week and there will be plenty of eyes on him as he returns to a tournament that he has had tremendous success at.

Spieth, who has five top 10’s here since 2014, will be looking to rebound after a rough week at the Farmers when he suffered his first missed cut since the Famers in 2021.

“I got a bacterial infection in my stomach” – Jordan Spieth

Jordan will also be looking to put a stomach bug that he caught last week behind him, “I got a bacterial infection in my stomach and had to get on some meds and I didn’t know that until I finished my round Thursday, the second round, but I, the test had come back before I teed off and it was what they were testing for and I didn’t see it until I got done or I may not have played.” he said.

But the 2017 Pebble Beach Pro-Am winner believes he has now put that behind him, “I knew I had almost a whole week to kind of get on top of it and I rested for a couple days and started to feel a bit better and things started to get a little more back to normal.” he commented.

Ryan Palmer will play his first three rounds this week alongside Spieth, and he will be striving to improve upon previous results at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am after missing the cut here in 2019 and 2017. He has started 2022 with a 12th at the Sony Open and a 16th at the Farmers Insurance Open last week.
