We saw Scottie Scheffler haul in a trophy last week at the WM Phoenix Open.

Can we see another player with an “Sch-” surname get it done here at the Genesis Invitational.

I don’t see why not.

Schauffele was in contention in Phoenix, too. The Californian carded 67-65-69-68 to post his best finish of the season, T-3rd, and finish one shot back.

“Game is looking pretty good,” Schauffele was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “Need to get the putter to work a little bit better for me throughout the week at Riv, and the results should be different.”

The stats back up X’s assessment. He ranked 54th in the field in strokes gained putting (-1.232) and first in SG tee to green (13.141). In SG off the tee, approach, and around the green he was in the top 10.

Nonetheless, it was an impressive performance after playing in the Middle East (T-18th) the week prior. Two weeks prior, he teed it up at the Farmers Insurance Open (T-34th), so he’s racking up the sky miles.

I’d be a little wary of betting the house on Schauffele, but he’s young and air travel isn’t as taxing as it used to be. Besides, the La Jolla native can just hop into a car for this week’s event in his home state.

The former San Diego State Aztec has a great track record at the Genesis Invitational with four top-25s in as many starts.

Schauffele debuted with T-9th (71-70-68-66) in 2018, followed with T-15th (74-68-67-69), T-23rd (72-70-69-69) and T-15th (71-69-71-69).

He was a bit off with his driver last year but was top-30 in all other SG categories to salvage another fine result.

“Yeah, the course is so interesting. It’s one of those places where the more you play it, the more comfortable you get,” Schauffele was transcribed by Tee Scripts in 2021. “…I think patience is big out here. The greens are pure, you’ve just got to hit it in the right spots, leave yourself below the hole and that will give you the best chance to win.”

Schauffele is normally solid off the tee, coming in 41st in strokes gained (.266) last season and T-24th (.479) now.
