2022 Honda Classic: Top 10 power rankings at PGA National
It would have been nice to get both Hojgaard twins in the field, but Rasmus will sure to be cheering on twin brother, Nicolai, this week.
Both are 20-year-old Danes who are taking the golf world by storm. Both have climbed into the top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings and are winners on the DP World Tour.
Nicolai’s ranked a bit higher at the moment and won his second title earlier in the month at the Ras al Khaimah Championship in the United Arab Emirates.
More impressive was his first win. Hojgaard conquered a Rolex Series event in 2021, the DS Automobiles Open, defeating the likes of Tommy Fleetwood and Henrik Stenson in the process.
The Hojgaards can pummel the ball. Nicolai is fourth on the DP World Tour in driving distance (334.15). Length isn’t of utmost importance this week at PGA National, but he’s also solid with his irons at 70% greens in regulation (26th) this year and 71.55% (13th) last year.
This will be Hojgaard’s debut on the PGA Tour and on American soil. He got in the field via a sponsor exemption.
The young man missed a pair of cuts early in 2022 at Rolex Series events. Based on comments at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic, he appears to be back on track.
“After those last two weeks, I put in some good work,” Hojgaard was quoted by the DP World Tour. “I felt like my thoughts and swing were a bit blocked up, I couldn’t free up so I’ve just been trying to free up a little bit, play golf with my skills and let my talent take over instead of trying to overthink things.”
