While Cameron Young could never quite hunt down wire-to-wire winner Joaquin Niemann at last week’s Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour rookie still acquitted himself quite nicely.

The 24-year-old matched his career-high finish in the big leagues with a T-2nd finish. Young fired 66-62-69-70 to reach 17-under, a number that would have won or gotten him into a playoff every year at that event since 1990.

“Overall you finish tied for second at Riviera, I can’t complain. I mean, I’m lucky just to be here and I know it does some good things for me going forward,” Young was transcribed by Tee Scripts, “so I am happy with the week, for sure.”

The Wake Forest grad won in back-to-back weeks on the Korn Ferry Tour last May to earn his PGA Tour card after just one go-round on the KFT.

If that’s not impressive enough, Young finished T-2nd in his second start on the PGA Tour, the Sanderson Farms Championship.

He has made all four cuts since the calendar flipped to 2022 with a T-20th at the Farmers Insurance Open standing out.

Young can produce incredible clubhead speed. He’s second on the PGA Tour this season in strokes gained off the tee (.812).

Young was also second in the Genesis field in SG off the tee (5.204 total). He was top-10 in SG approach and putting, too.

Funny enough, he was second in the field in scrambling (82.61%) and 60th in SG around the green (-1.227).

Young grew up in New York, but his time playing in the ACC should be of use for the upcoming Florida Swing.

He fared pretty well in his first trip around a tough course like Riviera. I envision him keeping it rolling at PGA National.
