You have to go back to last summer’s U.S. Open to find the last time Billy Horschel’s missed a cut. Since then, the former Florida Gator won the DP World Tour’s BMW PGA Championship and has accumulated a mess of high finishes.

Most recently in 2022, he’s made all three of his cuts as well as competed in the no-cut Sentry Tournament of Champions. Horschel’s improved each week, finishing middle of the pack at Sentry, posting T-36th at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T-11th at the Farmers Insurance Open, and contending at the WM Phoenix Open where he was T-6th and just two shots out of a playoff.

Horschel seems to be developing some good swing thoughts.

“Todd Anderson and I, my teacher, and I have been working very hard for the last couple years, and I sound like a broken record but it’s been a trial-and-error with our swing and trying to get the right feels to match up with what we see on video,” Horschel was quoted by ASAP Sports after Phoenix. “I felt like last week at home we finally hit on something, and just never know until you come out here, and it’s been pretty good all week. It’s not totally grooved in, but I felt like I’ve had more control of the golf ball than I’ve had in a while…”

Finishing 42nd in the field in strokes gained approach (.592) was nothing special, but considering he’s outside the top 200 on the PGA Tour in that stat this season, it’s a step in the right direction.

Otherwise, Horschel is solid. He’s second in SG putting (.972) and 34th in SG off the tee (.377).

The Jacksonville Beach, Florida resident will hop in the car to head south. This will be Horschel’s 10th Honda Classic start. He’s made just five cuts, but four of the last five.

The 35-year-old has cracked the code in recent years with T-8th (73-70-66-69) in 2016, T-4th (70-68-67-68), and T-16th (67-71-63-67) in 2019.

Horschel has never won in his home state of Florida. You know he’d love to, and there may not be a better chance than this week.
