A surprising amount of big-name Jupiter, Florida, residents tend to skip the Honda Classic lately.

Not Daniel Berger.

This is as close to a home game as it gets for Berger, who has two top-fives at this event in six appearances. Not to mention, the Florida native has teed it up at PGA National for junior events.

“…obviously it’s nice to sleep in your own bed and be able to eat dinner at your own house and just kind of be around family and friends,” Berger was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2017.

He nearly won the 2015 Honda Classic as a rookie. Berger fired 68-71-71-64 to reach a two-man playoff won by Padraig Harrington. While that didn’t work out for Berger, it gave the youngster valuable reps against a three-time major champ.

Berger’s made four cuts at PGA National, all inside the top 36.

The former Florida State Seminole shot 69-70-69-69 in 2020 to finish three shots back of winner Sungjae Im in a tie for fourth.

The 28-year-old has been fairly quiet in 2022. In three starts, Berger peaked with T-5th at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and added a T-20th at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Hitting lots of greens this week is key. Berger was seventh on the PGA Tour last season in GIR (70.5%) and was fifth in strokes gained approach (.834). He was also third in par-4 scoring (3.96) and is just a well-rounded type of player who can handle the myriad challenges of PGA National.
