Tyrrell Hatton is rounding into form just in time for one of his best tournaments on the schedule.

Not only is the Englishman a past Arnold Palmer Invitational champion in 2020, but he’s made the cut every year since 2017.

In his win, Hatton fired 68-69-73-74 to hang on for a one-shot victory over Marc Leishman. His 4-under score was the highest in tournament history since Mike Nicollette won at 1-under in the 1983 Bay Hill Classic.

Conditions were windy and firm, which is right up U.K. players’ alley.

He also was familiar with these Florida climes as an Orlando area resident.

“…we feel very comfortable here and that’s why we have kind of made it our second home,” Hatton was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2020. “And to, I guess to have your own, to sleep in your own bed on a tournament week is something that we don’t get to experience too often. And home comforts, I think maybe helped keep me a little bit more relaxed as well.”

Last year, Hatton tied for 21st (77-67-66-77) in roller-coaster fashion. He ranked third in the field in strokes gained tee to green (10.079) but was 69th in SG putting (-4.882). These kinds of disparities can drive a guy like him bonkers.

Regardless, it was still a solid payday and a good title defense.

He also finished T-4th (72-69-67-71) in 2017.

Hatton’s yet to play on the PGA Tour in 2022 but posted back-to-back high finishes during the DP World Tour’s Desert Swing.

He took T-6th in Abu Dhabi and T-4th in Dubai, both of which featured some big names high up the leaderboard.

Hatton hasn’t teed it up since posting a top 30 on the Asian Tour nearly a month ago, so he should be fresh for a busy stretch of golf coming for him and players of his ilk in the next month-plus.
