2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational: Top 10 power rankings at Bay Hill
What’s next for Scottie Scheffler?
It was only a matter of time for the talented Texan to win his first career PGA Tour event. It finally culminated in a triumph a few weeks ago at the WM Phoenix Open.
Now, it’ll be interesting to see what Scheffler can follow it up with.
He’s already thrived under the spotlight of being a top-ranked junior, collegian, and amateur as well as in the Ryder Cup.
Scheffler’s even performed well at World Golf Championship events where in 2021 he produced his best career finish (2nd) at the Dell Match Play until he won in Phoenix.
Can he take the next step to stardom?
The former Texas Longhorn is one of the big favorites this week and could very well pick up his second win in short succession. Winning Arnie’s event is a good way to gain credibility.
The week after he broke through in the desert, Scheffler backed it up with T-7th at the Genesis Invitational.
With a week off last week to recharge, there’s no great reason why he can’t contend again versus fewer big names than were at Riviera.
This is Scheffler’s second Arnold Palmer Invitational appearance. He debuted with T-15th (67-74-75-75) in 2020.
Scheffler was T-8th in the field in driving accuracy (64.29%) but struggled on the greens outside of a hot round with the flat stick on Thursday.
“When the winds blowing the way they were, there’s a decent amount of crosswinds, and when the wind blows, you have to hit a lot of different shots and getting the ball in the fairway is really important,” Scheffler was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2020.
