The Arnold Palmer Invitational And It’s History With Tiger Woods
2000
The first of eight. Tiger Woods began his incredible run at Bay Hill with his first-ever win at the Bay Hill Invitational. His first win came with very little suspense involved as Tiger had the tournament in hand after a birdie on the 12th hole on Sunday, he would go on to beat Davis Love III by a four-shot margin.
It was Woods’ third win of the 2000 season and the beginning of a spectacular year that included also winning the U.S. Open, British Open, and PGA Championship in the same year. He won a ridiculous nine times in 2000.
2001
Tiger Woods secured the first of three dramatic wins at Bay Hill that all would come on the historic 18th green. In 2001 he edged out Phil Mickelson for his second win at was then known as the Bay Hill Invitational.
Woods came into the event winless for the year and after taking a one-shot lead over Sergio Garcia into the final round on Sunday, he soon found himself trailing to Phil Mickelson who had made quite the charge up the leaderboard. Tiger needed to birdie the 18th for the victory and avoid a playoff with Mickelson.
His drive on the last took a memorable bounce off of a spectator that in all probability saved a dropped shot. Woods hit his second onto the green to set up what would be the first of several memorable putts on the18th in the coming years. With Mickelson watching, Tiger drained the birdie putt to win at Bay Hill for a second time.
