THE PLAYERS: DeChambeau Withdraws From 2022 Players
Players Championship week got an early surprise on Sunday night as reports out of Golfweek reported that the 2020 U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau will miss the trip to TPC Sawgrass.
DeChambeau hasn’t played since having to withdraw from the Saudi International on the DP World Tour in early February, he has since missed some massive events as part of the PGA schedule including the Genesis Invitational last month, the Arnold Palmer Invitational just last week, and now the 2022 Players Championship.
Bryson has been plagued by a hand and hip injury for quite some time now, something he reported on his Twitter account last month prior to his withdrawal from the Genesis.
DeChambeau has made just two appearances on the PGA Tour in 2022, the first came at the Sentry Tournament Of Champions in Hawaii in January where he finished T14th. He also appeared at the Farmers Insurance Open where he missed the cut in late January.
Bryson has made the cut in each of his last three appearances at the Players Championship including a 3rd place finish at TPC Sawgrass just last year.
It remains to be seen when fans will next see Bryson DeChambeau
The World Golf Championship Match Play in a couple of weeks’ time would be the next logical spot for Bryson to come back assuming he is healthy. If he doesn’t return for the WGC in Austin there is a very real possibility that he won’t be seen until the Masters in early April.
One thing that is certain however is that the longer this goes on the more questions will be raised in regards to his future with the PGA Tour. This is in spite of the fact that he came out and made a statement during the Genesis Invitational that his intentions were to remain with the PGA.
Bryson played twenty-one events in 2021 and recorded six top 10 finishes, a win at the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational, and a runner-up finish at the BMW Championship where he came up just short to eventual winner Patrick Cantlay.
