2022 WGC-Dell Match Play: Top 10 power rankings at Austin CC
This was one of the tougher group winners to choose, as No. 17 seed Daniel Berger will have to finish ahead of No. 13 Tyrrell Hatton.
Hatton’s the top seed in Group 13 and is riding red-hot form that’s seen him do everything but win in 2022. However, the Englishman can run hot in an event where it’s all about keeping your cool. It could be why Hatton’s never made the quarterfinals in four WGC-Dell Match Play appearances.
Nor has Berger, but I see him sneaking by.
Berger will also get by No. 48 Si Woo Kim and No. 52 Christiaan Bezuidenhout.
Kim has never made the quarterfinals in four appearances and won his pool just once. He’s also without a top-10 since October.
Bezuidenhout has remained solid since breaking into the top 50 in the world in 2020, but he’s also absent a top-10 on the PGA Tour since February 2021. Bez went 0-2-1 in his WGC-Dell Match Play debut a year ago.
Berger should cruise in his first two matches and may not even need to beat Hatton on Friday to advance.
I’ve got Berger downing No. 4 Patrick Cantlay in one of the best round of 16 matches I forecasted. The run ends there when Berger is held up by 2021 tournament finalist, No. 5 Scottie Scheffler.
