Corey Conners should come to the Valero Texas Open with confidence.

For starters, he’s fresh off his deepest run at the WGC-Dell Match Play where he earned third place.

Conners won his group by winning a conceded match against Paul Casey and defeating Alex Noren and Louis Oosthuizen. The Canadian advanced in the knockout rounds with a dominating 5&3 win over Takumi Kanaya and a 2UP win over Abraham Ancer. Conners lost 2UP to match play stalwart Kevin Kisner before bouncing back to thump Dustin Johnson 3&1 in the third-place match.

Conners noted how he was confident in all facets of his game throughout the week. Performances like this make him look like a lock for the Presidents Cup this fall.

“I never get too far ahead of myself, but I felt like I was playing really well, and I really liked my game,” Conners was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “I felt like I was hitting the ball really well, driving it well and ironing it well, and it’s a good combination for match play, just being in every hole, giving yourself chances on every hole.”

The Kent State alum should also be confident arriving at a place where he’s won. Conners advanced through the 2019 Valero Texas Open Monday qualifier and ended up winning with scores of 69-67-66-66. He beat TPC San Antonio horse for the course, Charley Hoffman, by two.

Conners finished in style with a 6-under 30 to seal the deal. His 20-under total is the best winning score since the tournament moved to the Oaks Course in 2010.

Conners also appeared at the 2018 Texas Open where he finished T-26th (70-74-70-70) and T-14th (71-74-67-70) in 2021.

His good recent form also includes T-11th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T-26th at the Players Championship.

The 30-year-old ranks seventh on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.664) and is gaining strokes in all other categories. Conners is also third in greens in regulation (74.13%).
