With a decent showing this week, Luke List can break into the top 10 in the FedEx Cup. There’s still plenty of season to go, but that would still be a notable achievement for the journeyman.

The 37-year-old is in this position largely due to his first career PGA Tour win this season at the Farmers Insurance Open. He polished off a talented field at a historic venue like Torrey Pines.

List has four top-11 finishes in the 2021-22 season.

He last teed it up at last week’s WGC-Dell Match Play. List failed to make it out of group play with a 1-2-0 record. He at least went out on a high note, defeating world No. 7 Justin Thomas 3&2 on day 3. List also took group winner and tournament runner-up, Kevin Kisner, to the 18th hole in a 1UP loss.

The Vanderbilt alum has made just three of six cuts at the Valero Texas Open, though two were top-30s. That includes a personal best T-17th in 2021 (73-71-70-69).

List hit less than 50% fairways on the week but averaged 306.7 yards off the tee to set up plenty of manageable approach shots.

He ranks first this season on the PGA Tour in strokes gained tee to green (1.798), is sixth in SG off the tee, and 13th in SG approach (.682).

If he can roll some putts in, there’s no reason why he can’t win. At the least, his first top-10 at TPC San Antonio looks likely.
