2022 Valero Texas Open: Top 10 power rankings at TPC San Antonio
Two-time Presidents Cup qualifier, Anirban Lahiri reemerged in the spotlight a couple weeks ago at the Players Championship.
The Indian nearly won his first PGA Tour event in dramatic fashion, coming from outside the top 300 in the Official World Golf Rankings to finish in second place at TPC Sawgrass.
He’s won five times in his career on the Asian Tour and twice in DP World Tour/Asian Tour co-sanctioned events, but none since 2015.
At age 34, it’s not too late to add to the trophy case.
That’s especially true at the Valero Texas Open, where he’s played well before.
You only have to look back one year when Lahiri earned the first of a pair of PGA Tour top-fives in 2021. He posted 71-69-69-69 at TPC San Antonio to earn fifth place.
Lahiri was solid on the Bermuda greens, ranking fourth in the field in strokes gained putting (6.17). He was also seventh in SG off the tee (3.976) and eighth in scrambling (75%).
This season, he’s 52nd on the PGA Tour in SG off the tee (.271).
He’s made all three cuts at the Oaks Course.
Lahiri led for much of the Players Championship in what was a draining week. He was unable to qualify for the WGC-Dell Match Play and did not play the Valspar Championship the week prior.
I see the time off refueling his body but not dwindling his confidence.
“I love golf, and when you know you can play well and you don’t, you’re not happy. Then when you start playing well again and you start hitting it the way you want to hit it again, you are happy. I mean, it’s pretty simple,” Lahiri was transcribed by ASAP Sports during the Players. “I’m just in that place right now where I’m just hitting it nice, I’m seeing it nice, I’m feeling it nice, and that just makes me happy.”
