Spring is in the air, the Azaleas are in full bloom, and Augusta National is ready to host the playing of the 86th Masters. At long last, the calendar has turned to the first week of April signaling the beginning of 2022’s first Major Championship.

After the historic win for Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama in 2021, are we once again in store for another first-time winner of the famed green jacket? or will someone add their name to the historic list of those who have won on multiple occasions at Augusta National?. Since 1934 only seventeen men have ever accomplished that feat.

The best players in the world are who often emerge victorious at the Masters, in fact, Hideki Matsuyama (25th) was the lowest-ranked player in the world golf rankings to win at Augusta dating back to at least 2012. The previous nine victors on the hallowed grounds were all ranked higher in the world rankings prior to their win.

The probability that the winner of the 2022 Masters continues that trend seems increasingly likely, with that being said, things can always go horribly wrong. Let’s imagine a world that features two distinct scenarios for each of the ten most likely winners at Augusta National. The first being the best-case scenario, the second being the worst-case scenario. From a semi-realistic perspective of course. Let’s begin shall we?.

Imagining The Best and Worst Case Scenario For 10 Would Be Winners Of The Masters

1.  Jon Rahm

Best Case: The Spaniard may not hold the top spot in the world any longer, that belongs to one Scottie Scheffler, but that won’t stop those in the know from making Jon Rahm the favorite to win his first green jacket this week. That is precisely what they have done and so he begins this list.

His history at Augusta National to begin his young career is spectacular, 27th in his first start at the Masters is his worst finish, his other results read 4th, 9th, 7th, 5th. The second-ranked player in the world clearly has an eye for this place and after top 10 finishes in each of his previous starts at Augusta National, he finally puts it all together in 2022.

Mr. Rahm isn’t perfect for the week, but bizarrely it is the putter that saves him on his quest for the green jacket. After weeks of dealing with a cold putter, he seemingly can’t miss as he makes 20-30 footers all week long. The event comes to a conclusion and Jordan Spieth congratulates the new Masters champion by handing him a golden putter.

Worst Case: The 2021 U.S. Open winner turns in another fine finish at the Masters, but much like how 2022 has gone so far, it isn’t enough to win. The putter doesn’t cooperate again and Jon in a-Si Woo Kim type fashion snaps it in two out of frustration. It is the second year in a row that we witness someone playing out the conclusion of their round putting with a club that is not ideally designed for that purpose. In the end, lack of consistency over four rounds, and that darn putter, end any dreams of a green jacket, for this year at least.
