The Masters Leaderboard Round 3: Scheffler Maintains lead, Tiger Struggles
Scottie Scheffler has his lead at the top trimmed heading into Masters Sunday, while Tiger Woods struggles.
Scottie Scheffler was tested on Saturday at the Masters, particularly on the back nine when he bogeyed three of four holes. On each occasion he would bounce back though, following a bogey on the iconic Par 3,12th, Scheffler responded with a bounce-back birdie on the Par 5, 13th hole.
The World number one is looking for his first Major Championship this week, and he comes into the week on the back of three wins in 2022 already. The University Of Texas product would bogey two of his next three holes, a result that cut his lead down to three shots over second-place Cameron Smith.
But as he has done throughout much of 2022, he responded in an excellent manner, a fantastic Par save on the 16th was followed by a birdie on the 17th, after he took advantage of a rather fortuitous bounce resulting from his second shot.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for Scheffler however, as he would eventually drop another shot on the18th. After beginning the day with a five-shot lead, he will take a three-shot advantage into Masters Sunday.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods had a rough finish to his third round on Saturday as he would bogey two of his last three holes before proceeding to double bogey the 18th. He was then seen limping as he signed off with a 78, six over Par round. Woods sits at +7 heading into Sunday.
