2022 RBC Heritage: Top 10 Power Rankings At Harbour Town

We go from some of the widest fairways in the pro game at Augusta National to some of the narrowest at Harbour Town.

It’s time for the RBC Heritage, a PGA Tour event held since 1969 at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

A field of 132 players are assembled for this invitational tournament that doles out an iconic plaid jacket to its champion.

The Pete Dye design currently measures 7,121 yards for a par 71. The course is heavily tree-lined with branches even making approach shots from the fairways tricky if players aren’t positioned properly.

Less than driver is the proper play on numerous holes.

The average driving distance is much lower at the RBC Heritage than at most PGA Tour stops.

What’s key this week is accuracy off the tee to set up the right approach shots to attack Harbour Town Golf Links’ small, speedy and undulating greens. The Bermuda greens aren’t Augusta-like, but they can be fiery, too.

Strong iron play and a tidy short game are essential to success.

The event is traditionally held the week after the Masters. It was postponed to June in 2020 and Webb Simpson set a tournament record of 22-under in his win. Normally, winning scores tend to be in the teens under par.

Weather for the week looks fairly benign with temperatures in the 60s and 70s without much rain or storms predicted, save for a chance on Friday. Winds could gust into the teens miles per hour.

The field is relatively strong and usually attracts a smattering of contenders from the week before. Five of the top 10 from the Official World Golf Rankings are in attendance, as well as 13 of the top 25.
