2022 RBC Heritage: Top 10 Power Rankings At Harbour Town
Coming off a disappointing week at the Masters, Patrick Cantlay can take solace in his next start coming at a place of past success.
He hasn’t had the pleasure of donning the plaid jacket, but the Californians sniffed around it. Cantlay’s first three RBC Heritage appearances resulted in top-10s.
He finished T-3rd (70-66-70-67) in 2017, T-7th (67-72-68-68) in 2018 and T-3rd (67-72-66-69). Cantlay was just two shots off the pace in ‘17 and ‘19.
“It’s a golf course I feel really comfortable on so I look forward to this event every year,” Cantlay was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2019. “And I feel like it suits my game.”
The 30-year-old out of UCLA played brilliantly late in 2021 to win the BMW Championship and kept it going in 2022 with the Hawaiian/West Coast swing that produced four top-10s, including a solo second at the WM Phoenix Open.
Cantlay’s game hasn’t quite come together in the rest of America, last being a T-39th finish at the Masters. An opening 70 and closing 71 were positives from ANGC.
Fortunately, the RBC Heritage is an outlier to his inconsistent play away from his home state.
Cantlay ranks fifth on the PGA Tour in birdie average (4.77) and 21st in strokes gained putting (.535).
He can expect to face a lot of putts inside 10 feet. He’s fifth in that stat, cashing them in at a 91.1% clip. Cantlay’s never missed inside three feet all season, either.
His proficiency with driver will be diminished this week, but if a usually strong iron player can shine despite a tough statistical season thus far, Cantlay is poised for another top-10 at the RBC Heritage.
