Jordan Spieth had one of the most bizarre missed putts you will see from a PGA professional on Saturday at the RBC Heritage, but he is not alone in that category in 2022.

Jordan Spieth had a maddening moment on the putting green during his third round on Saturday at the 2022 RBC Heritage. Jordan has been known as relatively one of the best putters on the PGA Tour since he first turned professional, he has also been known as someone who has struggled with putts of the shorter variety over the past couple of years.

Even Jordan himself wouldn’t have believed what was about to take place during his round on Saturday. As the end of another solid round of golf drew near Spieth began his journey down the closing 18th at Harbour Town. He found the fairway with his final tee shot of the day and then found the green with his final approach shot of the round, what was left was about a ten-footer for birdie on the last.

Sinking the putt with his third would have resulted in a 66, five-under-par round for the day, at worse he was looking to finalize a 67 and what would have been his best round of the week thus far.

The three-time Major Championship winner just barely missed his birdie attempt and was looking at what was essentially a tap-in for par, instead, he proceeded to miss the 18-inch attempt and walked off with a closing bogey, yes you read that correct, Jordan Spieth missed an 18-inch putt.

It has been that kind of year for Jordan in 2022, he ranks 180th for the season in putting, but even he wouldn’t have been able to fathom missing a putt in this manner. The same player who ranked 2nd on Tour in putting during the 2018-19 PGA season, has truly struggled with the flat-stick this year.

Jordan Spieth has missed some very makeable putts at the RBC Heritage

Jordan had a putt during his second round that he would have expected to make as well, though it wasn’t nearly the shock that the miss on Saturday would have produced. Having had given himself a good look for an eagle on the par 5, 2nd during his second round, Spieth was left with about a five-footer for the big bird. The ensuing putt also missed and it was perhaps telling of the kind of week it was going to be with the putter.

He isn’t alone in this category in 2022 however, does anyone remember Jon Rahm’s incredible miss at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in early March?

It appears that Jordan Spieth wants to provide some competition for the shortest miss on Tour this year. This is an extremely rare occurrence, especially from the World’s elite professionals, but there must be something in the air in 2022 because this is seemingly becoming way more common in what can only be titled as a ‘year full of bizarre putts’.
