Fantasy Golf: 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta DFS Player Selections
By Hans Geevers
This week, the PGA Tour presents fantasy golf fans with the 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta.
Honestly, I am glad that last week’s PGA Tour team event in Louisiana is behind us. Just not a fan of the event from a fantasy golf/DFS perspective. Fortunately for me, this week’s PGA Tour event brings golf fans back to the traditional strokes play format.
Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact lineup for a specific fantasy provider. Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
Now let’s shift our attention to my DFS/fantasy golf selections for the 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta!
2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta DFS/Fantasy Golf Selections
Aaron Wise
The talented young American has accumulated two top 21 finishes in his last four events played on the PGA Tour, including a 17th place result at the 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Wise certainly checks the box for me when it comes to key player statistics. In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Aaron Wise ranks first in GIR (greens in regulation), 12th in bogey avoidance, second in strokes gained off the tee, and 14th in driving distance.
I also like the fact that Aaron Wise has previously illustrated an ability to play at a high level when playing in Mexico. Let me be more specific. Since 2017, Aaron Wise has played six tournaments on the PGA Tour in Mexico. In those six events just mentioned, Wise has accumulated four top 19 finishes, including a second-place result at the 2020 Mayakoba Golf Classic.
Nate Lashley
Since the beginning of March, Nate Lashley has played five tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those five events just mentioned, Lashley has accumulated four top 27 finishes, including a seventh-place result at the 2022 Puerto Rico Open.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Nate Lashley ranks sixth in strokes gained approach and tenth in strokes gained on par fours.
Gary Woodland
Last month, Gary Woodland fired a second-round 67 at the 2022 Valero Texas Open on his way to an eventual eighth-place finish.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta field, in the last 24 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Gary Woodland ranks second in bogey avoidance, fourth in birdie or better percentage, and eighth in driving distance.
In my opinion, Gary Woodland’s game is trending in a positive direction. Having stated that, I fully expect Woodland to be near the top of the leaderboard this Sunday afternoon.
Cameron Champ
Earlier this month, the 26-year-old American posted a final round 70 at the 2022 Masters en route to an eventual tenth place finish.
Champ has also played well in Mexico previously. Champ finished tenth at the 2018 Mayakoba Classic.
Additional golfers I like this week: Jon Rahm: Adam Long: Chad Ramey.
