2022 Wells Fargo Championship: Top 10 Power Rankings at TPC Potomac
Matt Fitzpatrick is making his course debut at TPC Potomac, but he ought to like this layout.
The Englishman isn’t known for being a long hitter, but he’s a precise one. Fitzpatrick ranks 27th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.430) thanks largely to his 24th ranking in driving accuracy (64.33%).
The 27-year-old has seven DP World Tour wins but has yet to get it done stateside.
This week at the Wells Fargo Championship is one of Fitzpatrick’s best chances to win.
With most of the top 50 in the world resting up with the PGA Championship looming in a couple weeks.
Fitzy comes to the Wells Fargo Championship with two weeks of rest after a missed cut at the RBC Heritage. That was just his second MC of 2022.
It snapped a stellar run of form that featured three top-20s in a row led by T-5th at the Valspar Championship. He’s got four top-10s and T-14th at the Masters in eight starts in 2022.
We’re over halfway through the season and Fitzpatrick is sitting third on the PGA Tour in SG total (1.707) and seventh in scoring average (69.988)..
A big part of his improvement he attributes to switching to a cross-handed grip last year. It led to a jump from 67th (.055) in SG around the green last season to 20th (.375) currently.
Fitzpatrick will challenge Ryder Cup teammate, Rory McIlroy, and company for the trophy this week.
