2022 Wells Fargo Championship: Top 10 Power Rankings at TPC Potomac
Max Homa comes to the Wells Fargo Championship on a streak of five made cuts. Six, if you count his T-21th finish with Talor Gooch a couple weeks ago at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
The Californian is known to play well on the West Coast. Two wins in the Golden State reflect that. He did it again in 2022 with T-14th at the WM Phoenix Open and T-10th in his title defense at the Genesis Invitational.
The key for Homa at the Wells Fargo Championship will be continuing good form away from comfortable climes.
Homa’s done that, adding in a T-17th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T-13th at the Players Championship. Not to mention his 2019 Wells Fargo Championship victory at Quail Hollow which was the first of three career PGA Tour wins.
The Cal alum has not teed it up competitively at TPC Potomac.
Homa ranks 39th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.421) and blends a good mix of length and accuracy. He won’t be able to utilize driver as much this week, but he’s solid throughout the bag.
Homa is 35th in SG approach (.433) and 32nd in birdie average (4.18). If he can get the putter rolling, he’s got the talent to contend on a consistent basis.
He’s already a winner this season at the 2021 Fortinet Championship. Mix in five more top-20s and Homa is set up well in the FedEx Cup race and will remain in the top 50 in the world rankings for weeks to come.
