For my money, Cameron Young is the frontrunner for PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. There’s a lot of season to go, but three top-threes and six top-20s for the Korn Ferry Tour grad is already an impressive resume.

In just his second start of 2021-22, Young finished one shot out of a playoff at the Sanderson Farms Championship. He had a great West Coast Swing going 4-for-4 with all top-40s and T-2nd against an elite field at the Genesis Invitational.

Young swapped coasts and still kept playing well. Two top-20s and T-3rd in his last start a few weeks ago at the RBC Heritage show he can get it done in a variety of different settings.

Young’s game is proving more adaptable than one might think.

Perhaps most important for this week is that high finish at Harbour Town. The big hitter doesn’t seem like a good course fit for that tight layout, but he throttled down off the tee and showed off other aspects of his game.

That will be the ticket to success at TPC Potomac, which he’s seeing for the first time.

The Wake Forest alum ranks third on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.812) and is fifth in driving distance (317.4). That length won’t be flexed as much with driver, but length throughout the bag can still be a benefit.

Soft course conditions expected should also help his cause. If it’s a birdie fest, Young is suited for it. He’s sixth at 4.61 per round.

Not to mention, sitting top-100 in SG around the green (.072) and near the top 50 in SG putting (.277).

He turns 25 on Saturday. What better gift for yourself than a PGA Tour win? The man seems due to get it done sooner rather than later.
