2022 AT&T Byron Nelson: Top 10 power rankings at TPC Craig Ranch
Xander Schauffele arrives at TPC Craig Ranch for the first time.
He’s a good driver with enough length to attack where all the bombers do around this big ballpark.
Schauffele has confidence on his side heading into the AT&T Byron Nelson
He should be feeling good from his win alongside Patrick Cantlay a couple of weeks ago at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
The duo fired a tournament-low 59 in foursomes on Thursday to set the tone for an eventual two-shot victory. It got close for a little bit on Sunday, but they were in control most of the way.
It was Schauffele’s fourth career PGA Tour win, though this one did not net him any world ranking points.
The former San Diego State Aztec has made four of six stroke play cuts this season on the PGA Tour. Schauffele contended at the WM Phoenix Open (T-3rd) and played well against a stacked field at the Genesis Invitational.
The 28-year-old ranks 63rd or better on the PGA Tour in all strokes gained categories, including 20th in SG tee to green (1.067). A few superlatives include ranking second in sand saves (70.27%), 13th in birdie average (4.34), and second in proximity from 175-200 yards (27’3”).
It was a surprise to see Schauffele miss the cut at the Masters. With the Zurich his only start since Augusta National, I envision him to remain remotivated and get back to his usual solid play at majors.
But first, I envision him getting in the mix at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
