TPC Craig Ranch is a new course for a good chunk of the field. Not the case for Will Zalatoris.

Not only did he tee it up at the course’s AT&T Byron Nelson debut in 2021, but the Dallas metro native and resident has played plenty of rounds here growing up.

Zalatoris competed at TPC Craig Ranch during the Second Stage of Korn Ferry Tour qualifying and was T-17th (70-68-67-67) at the 2021 Byron Nelson.

At last year’s event, Big Z lost more than four strokes on the greens but was solid elsewhere. Zalatoris was first in strokes gained approach (9.477) and made no double bogeys or worse.

He hit 65 of 72 greens in regulation (90.28%) to rank first in the 2021 AT&T Byron Nelson field.

“Yeah, anytime you’re able to sleep in your own bed is obviously a big bonus,” Zalatoris was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2021. “So I played TPC Craig Ranch a bunch going back, I think, to when I was actually 12 years old. I played in, it was actually the Ewing Junior Tour regular season championship, played in a foursome with Scottie Scheffler, and I’ve got a lot of great memories here.”

The 25-year-old ranks second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach (1.048) and SG tee to green (1.767). He knows how to take it low like you’ll need to do this week as he shot a 61 in round two of The American Express.

The Wake Forest alum should be plenty rested for this week. Zalatoris hasn’t competed since the Masters, where he finished top-six for the second year in a row with a T-6th finish.

That was his sixth straight made cut. The streak features a T-6th at The American Express, solo second at the Farmers Insurance Open, and a run to the WGC-Match Play quarterfinals.

All that’s left to do for Zalatoris is win.
